Reed players are entirely dependent upon a short-lived vegetable matter of merciless capriciousness, with which... when it behaves, are wrought... the most tender and expressive sounds.

The oboe has been my constant companion, friend, and enemy for the last twenty-three years. When things are great, one feels like they are on top of the world, and when things are bad, they are truly terrible. When things hit rock bottom, there are times when neither myself nor the oboe dare speak to the other. However, I've learned that the oboe can be told what to do—but only a few times a year and you’d better ask nicely.

The oboe has allowed me to play the most beautiful melodies and make listeners’ lives brighter. It has taken me all over the world, opening doors to experiences that I could never have imagined. I’ve been infinitely blessed with wonderful pupils and incredible collaborators. For this, I am thankful, and I can’t wait to see how my beloved instrument shall grow me further and allow me a little mischief along the way.
